Maya Anderson is a Japanese-Australian set and costume designer based in Naarm
(Melbourne), working across all forms of theatre and live production. With a background
in graphic design and performance design studies at the Victorian College of the Arts
(2021-2023), Maya’s creative practice merges visual storytelling with an innovative and
technical approach to design. She is currently pursuing a Master of Design and
Production at the VCA, with graduation anticipated in 2025.
Her recent theatre credits include; assistant designer ‘Our Monster’s Name is Jerry’
(Dirty Pennies Theatre, Theatreworks, 2025) associate designer, ‘Biographica’ (Lyric Opera,
Theatreworks, 2024), set and costume designer ‘A Zoom Group Project’ (Melbourne Fringe
Festival, The MC Showroom, 2023), set design assistant ‘The Summer of the Seventeenth
Doll’ (Union House Theatre, 2023), co-writer and costume designer, ‘Lovestruck’ (Floorwork
Theatre, The Guild Theatre, 2023), set and costume designer ‘JAFFY’ (Floorwork Theatre, The
Guild Theatre, 2022), wardrobe assistant ‘American Idiot’ (Theatrical, Chapel off Chapel, 2022).
